Water treatment

Independent of the substances present in the water, the DVGW Research Center develops processes to achieve a specific water quality.

Water as raw material and by-product plays a key role in the industrial sectors like Power-to-X. We apply our expertise in Analytics, Membrane and other processes to research, evaluate and develop treatment and management approaches for the supply of pure water and handling of process streams in the greenhydrogen and Power-to-X production.

Biological processes with fixed-bed reactors are an additional core competence of the Engler-Bunte-Institut. In microbial electrolysis cells, we can use the power supply to specifically manipulate electroactive microorganisms and to degrade undesirable or produce desirable products.

In addition, we can also use advanced oxidation processes (AOP) to remove micropollutans as well as to eliminate antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The processes are usually developed in the framework of cooperations in which companies and other research institutions participate.
